Information About MetaCrawler's Sponsored Listings

The information below provides a basic overview of how MetaCrawler selects and blends the top results from the leading search engines, including sponsored (paid) and non-sponsored listings. If after reading this information you still have questions, please contact us we'll be glad to assist you in understanding our Web search results. Thank you!

How does MetaCrawler rank sponsored and non-sponsored Web search results?
The search results you get are a combination of the best sponsored and non-sponsored results from the top engines on the Web. The ratio of sponsored to non-sponsored results depends on the search, but sponsored results are always clearly identified with a "Sponsored" or similar designation.

Results will generally be listed in order of relevance as we receive them from our search engine providers and MetaCrawler's own metasearch technology. The specific ranking and mixture of sponsored and non-sponsored results will generally depend on the nature of your search. For example, if you are searching for commercial purposes, such as looking for information and prices on digital cameras and search for the term "digital camera prices", the results will generally include more sponsored results and include commercial Web pages containing information on businesses offering cameras for sale. If, on the other hand, you are searching for non-commercial purposes, such as academic or general research purposes and search for the term "digital camera technology", the results will weighted more toward articles, information and other non-commercial results.

What is included in the Directory search results?
MetaCrawler's Yellow and White pages search results contain listings of relevant businesses and individuals for your search term. Sponsored listings are commonly identified as "Sponsors," "Sponsored Listings," "Featured Listings," "Yellow Page Advertisers" or have a similar designation. Non-sponsored results are listed in the order we receive them from our own and other third-party data providers.

How does MetaCrawler make money?
Like the other leading search engines, MetaCrawler primarily makes money from sponsored links and advertisements. However, depending on the search you do, you may not see an ad or sponsored link as these only appear when our technology identifies an ad or sponsored link as being relevant to your search. And because MetaCrawler believes in full disclosure of the source and nature of the results we provide, all our ads and sponsored links are clearly identified. After all, we search the Web too and know the true value of finding the most relevant results while saving time.
